I saw

on the notorious Finn street in Tel Aviv, Israel, fast asleep sitting on a wall in the sun. I could see she is a drug addict and street prostitute, although she did not proposition me or ask for money. I took a few photos of her asleep like this one. When she woke up she seemed quite happy to be snapped. She said she couldn't sleep last night because of the cold (it is exceptionally cold in Israel this winter) and was taking advantage of the warm midday sun. She would not say where she sleeps and after a short chat walked away. I offered her 50 sheqel and she took it. She smells bad, is dressed as if she sleeps rough and is in dire need of help. I really hope she makes it but the prognosis is bad.

I have been doing research at the New York Public Library for an architectural novel about the history of the World Trade Center site, based on an encounter there between Robert Moses, Herman Melville and Miles Davis.

This week when I arrived at the library the front entrance was closed, and I was directed toward the 42nd Street entrance. There I found the library undergoing extensive exterior restoration, as depicted above.

Inside I discovered the library converted into a curiosity cabinet of lights, power cables, and tall anorexic women in slinky costume. On inquiring, a guard informed me that the movie version of SEX AND THE CITY was being filmed there.

As the cameras rolled, I slipped away to look for the The Lionel Pincus and Princess Firyal Map Room....
