Why is Pakistan so darn liberal?
I read this morning that the lower house of Pakistan's Parliament passed a revision to the rape law that: 1) eliminates the death penalty for women who engage in extramarital sex and 2) drops the requirement for four witnesses to testify before a defendant can be convicted of rape!
Prime Minister Musharraf has hailed the measure and is likely to ignore Islamic fundamentalist opposition to its becoming law. What is this world coming to? Is there no halt to the spread of liberalism around the world? Is Pakistan now a "Blue State"? I mean, how hard can it be to find four witnesses to a rape, anyway?
EDIT: Yes, Tangerine, the question was tongue-in-cheek, just like most of what I say. In the meantime, I noticed there aren't many answers. I think the word "Pakistan" in the question caused people to run away like King Arthur from the Trojan Rabbit.

WTF?! I hope you meant this question as a joke! Do you honestly think that women should either be put to death or raped for committing adultery? If that's the case, the same rule should be applied to adulterous men!
